I don't see this as a serious problem. BarFly can do it either way,
and I do warn users that if they upload tunes with the music on the
same line as the V: that users of other programs will have difficulty
with them. Even then, it's a fairly minor bit of editing that needs
to be done to make the tune work. The discrepancy between the ways
in which clefs are handled is much more serious because you've got
to edit every single note to correct the problem, and it doesn't
lend itself to a simple script. So, if somebody out there would
fix abc2ps and variants to support the middle= subfield it would
remove a major source of incompatibility. You don't have to bother
with the transposePlay= or capo= subfields (other than to tolerate
their presence), since those only affect player programs.
