Something weird: The server here delivers the abc files as:
Content-Type: */*
This is completely bogus, of course, and confuses some browsers. The
Netscape 4.6 here died the first time I tried to download one of
them. I restarted it, and it worked the second time, but insisted on
writing the files to disk. It refuses to let itself be configured to
handle the "*/*" type, not surprisingly.
If you can get cooperation from your webmaster, you should try to get
them sent as the officially sanctioned type:
Content-Type: text/vnd.abc
If you can't get this, the next best is:
Content-Type: text/plain
