You're not the first one to think of this. Several people have
already turned DNA sequences into music, using various schemes. The
most interesting (if that's the word) that I've heard involved taking
the amino-acid encodings and interpreting them as 20 notes of a
scale. I'm not sure how they decided on the lengths. The result
wasn't exactly destined to be a Top Ten hit. Schoenberg fans would
like it, but probably not many others.
There are strong "linguistic" patterns in DNA, but if there's a good
way to map it to notes, nobody seems to have found it yet. But stay
tuned.
Meanwhile, as a takeoff on the Nth-letter decodings of the bible and
other texts, I'm waiting for someone to do a similar Nth-nucleotide
analysis of human DNA, and discover that there are proteins encoded
this way. Maybe they'll find another species encoded this way. It
might be a good SF plot, anyway.
Another possibility for similar silliness would be to convert each of
the nucleotides to binary (A=00, C=01, G=10, T=11), treat each
triplet as a 6-bit letter, and look for secret messages encoded as
BSD or some other such alphabet. Maybe they'll find ABC encoded
there. For that matter, they could use 4-nucleotide units to get
8-bit chars, and find messages in any of the ANSI 8856-* encodings.
Since there's a '|' in those char sets, you could get real ABC that
way ...
