So I implemented something that made the stuff below come out on the staff.
When you play it, it does indeed sound like a hornpipe (though I had to
increase the tempo by about a factor of 3). The stuff looked nothing
remotely like a hornpipe, so I'm not sure the effort was worthwhile.
A diagnostic of the form
"what the blue blazes do you think you are playing at!??"
would probably be better, (but I know that anyone who puts
one of those into a distributed program will have complaints
very soon when a perfectly serious customer has a perfectly
serious use for it).
