Categories can get confusing. It might be better to be able to key on
functionality. Assuming you had categories of "players," "file format
converter," and "sheet music printer" as categories, you would have no
trouble with abc2midi or abc2ps, but you would have trouble placing other
programs that perform multiple functions. If, on the other hand, each
program is provided with keywords or codes as to which functions it does,
then you could simply give multiple keys to those programs. Then a program
like tabledit can be coded as a player, a sheet music printer and a file
format converter. You might also code "which" file formats each program
supports (midi, abc, ps, pdf, enc).
I don't know if it would be of value to anyone but me, but when tablature is
supported, it would be interesting to know which instruments are supported
in the "as installed" program. Some programs support tablature, but only
for certain instruments (without extra work by either the author or the
user). I like to produce tablature for ukulele (heh heh - be nice) but
extra work usually needs to be done to be able to do it, while support for
guitar, mandolin and others can be selected immediately following
installation.
