The most recent run of my tune finder's search bot saw a loss of over
7000 tunes, which got my attention. It turns out that it was mostly
due to a drop of 9000 tunes at www.geocities.com. Much of the loss
seems to have been in the directory www.geocities.com/SoHo/9618/,
which now contains no file whose name starts with a letter after 'h'.
Geocities is becoming somewhat known for snafus, but this does seem a
bit strange. I looked around a bit, but couldn't discover any email
address associated with this tune collection. Does anyone know who it
belongs to?

On a somewhat smaller scale, there used to be a few dozen tunes at
www.celticmusic.co.nz, and they've all disappeared. Does anyone
recognize this site, or know who it belonged to? Did they maybe move
somewhere?

These were the only sites that lost tunes this time. The overall
totals were:

TUNES diff | TITLES diff | FILES diff | HOST
  82378 -7049 | 92635 -8122 | 30849 1206 | TOTAL

The file cou increasing while the tune count decreases is explained
by the fact that most of the disappearances are large files with lots
of tunes, while most of the new files contain only a single tune.
There were the usual couple dozen sites whose counts increased,
including more than 700 at www.capecod.net/~bblack/, plus 300 at
www.numachi.com/~rickheit/dtrad/abc/ which puts his count at over
1000 tunes.

The geocities collection does seem to be mostly a mirror of other
people's files, so there were probably few actual tunes lost. But
mirrors are valuable when the network gets flakey, which is all too
common, so it's useful to keep sites like this in working order.
