The .abc extension is correct, and should work fine with ABCWin.
Your files certainly work OK with BarFly.  One possibility is that the
server is (correctly) serving the files using the mime type text/vnd.abc,
and the user's browser doesn't understand that, and is saving the file
in some odd format which ABCWin doesn't understand.
