I don't know what a ghostnote is either, but I guess I have a similar
question. For songs you may want to give two alternative notations, one for
one syllable, e.g. G, and one for two syllables, e.g. (F/G/). How would
you do that in abc?

First, I tried grace notes, e.g. {(F/G/)} G, and had the problem that there
was a slur between the grace notes and the main note, and that I could not
control the length of the grace notes (they alway ended up sixteenths)

Then, I tried to use the chords notation with [], e.g. [GF/]G/ or rather
[G(F/]G/), but it didn't work either, because it was not possible to have
notes of different length on a stem, and the slur didn't show up correctly.

I tested all this with abcm2ps and abctab2ps.

A third possibility might be to define two different voices going on one
stave, which is apparently possible with abcm2ps, but I didn't try that,
since I didn't want to use this non-standard notation for just one note.

I know, the examples above are probably gross abuse of abc notation. So I
ask for good advise from the more experienced abcusers.

Laurenz.
