well, I must point out that it's not _my_ standard... ;-) I'm just trying to
help all those musicians who need something more than ABC 1.6 or 1.7.6.
ABC+ is merely ABC with multiple instruments, multiple voices, and explicit
formatting parameters.
My project is an attempt at organising a few developers and providing them
with hints and ideas. I studied the manuals of several notation
packages/languages, I picked up nice ideas here and there, and I wrote the
so-called ABC Plus draft. The language is mostly theoretical at the moment,
but it includes several existing extensions to ABC. It seems to me that more
extensions will become reality in the future, as abcm2ps indicates.
My personal idea is that ABC development stopped because ABC, even in its
current state, is an excellent tool for folk music. I'd say the best on
Earth, try any other notation language! In contrast, ABC+ is aimed at
classical music, using an upwardly compatible ABC syntax.
I've nearly finished a manual to typesetting music using ABC+. Even though
it's not complete, I'm going to publish it next week on the abcplus site to
get some feedback.
Long live ABC,
Guido =8-)
