since there was no chord in the original books, I think chords can be guessed from the melody (I'm not such a good musician to find this myself). If you're in the same case as I am, you can try for windows AbcMus1.1b : http://home1.swipnet.se/~w-11382/abcmus/ It can produce chords from a melody.
