For those interested, I have placed a version of Five Line Skink
(version 1.0a2)
at
http://www.geocities.com/w_macaulay/Skink.zip

this is a zipped jar file, and needs to be unzipped and then invoked via
java
java -jar Skink.jar

Note that there is no link to this file on the website, since this
version is
just for pre-release playing. A properly packaged one will come in the
next
few days.

- if you have previous version of Skink, you can just replace the jar
file.
- if you have the Mac OS X version, use the Terminal application to
replace
Skink.app/Contents/Resources/java/Skink.jar
with the new jar file

New features:

- play tunes (requires either Java 1.3 or separate Java Media Framework)

available from
http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/2.1.1/index.html
- much improved staff layout
- better printing including choice of landscape or portrait format

Limitations:
- single voice
- no choice of instrument
- no control of tempo
