The criteria - well, the Free Sheet Music Directory is just what the name implies: a directory of sites where sheet music downloads are available for free.
I focused on the ABC category in my posting, but the directory also lists sites with music in PDF and web graphics (GIF, PNG, JPEG) formats.
As a general rule (although I do make some exceptions) I do not list sites with music in program specific file formats. I happen to be one of those cranky old fools who still clings to the outdated idea that internet should be free and open to everybody, so I try to link only to sites where the content is viewable on any old browser/OS (in reality that means any reasonably recent version of Windows, Mac, Linux and FreBSD of course :-)
