I think you've made a thorough and clarifying analysis
of the actual 1.* backslash semantics. Now I understand
and appreciate what you've been trying to say.
I think your restatement of the 1.* backslash
rule is brilliant!

I will add a note about it to the backward
compatibility section of the ABC 2.0 draft.
