The current version of abc2midi uses MIDI pitch bends to implement microtonal accidentals. This is fine for music that's mostly in 12 equal temperament with microtonal inflections, but it is unacceptable for music in completely different tuning systems.
Fortunately, the MIDI Tuning Standard provides a way to remap all 128 MIDI keys to arbitary frequencies, and the specification is freely available: http://www.midi.org/about-midi/tuning.shtml The MTS is not supported by all MIDI equipment, but it is fully ratified by the MIDI Manufacturer's Association and it is becoming more popular. Also, it is supported by the popular software sequencer TiMidity++. I would be happy to implement MTS accidentals in abc2midi. The current pitch bend implementation would probably be kept for interoperability with equipment that doesn't support the MTS. So, if I send a patch, is it likely to be accepted? Keenan Pepper Yahoo!
