BTW, thanks for this citation; it was useful. I had read most of the
text in question before and was in fact even aware of the behavior, but
for some reason didn't think of it as discarding.. I know, that makes no
sense at all: the spec calls it discarding.
I think Jim's proposed fix for this is good. I just wanted to thank you
for helping me solve my confusion.
