It appear that outside a couple of specific needs, it is the case.

That would be really nice, but probably not as easy as it sound.
BTW, we can try doing this using xpdf, which is a really portable
GPL'ed implementation of a PDF reader and parser. (I have done a
port to BeOS, so I know about it :-)).
