Spell checker and Debian

How come the Debian AbiWord package (the one in Debian's ftp
sites) spellchecks in Portuguese, and the one I downloaded from
the AbiSource site checks in English?

I have an "ibrazilian" package installed and configured as
default ispell dictionary, and LANG=pt_BR.
