fix for broken Win32 build (7-10)

   This patch fixes the current Win32 build.
   NOTE: This patch breaks picture preview in the Insert Picture dialog.  I
am aware of it, but Mike is in a far better position to fix this than I am.
I just wanted to get things back into a state where I could compile and work
on other stuff.
