abiword dies with Gdk-ERROR

Dear Sir,

Trying to run abiword (installed with rpm on a Redhat 6.0  //
2.2.10-1SGI_17smp-bigmem)

I get this message:

Gdk-ERROR **: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
  serial 1250 error_code 8 request_code 72 minor_code 0

Any suggestions ?
