It seems the problem is within ispell.h
Question: Is your original AbiWord american.hash file the small build?
(because the ispell.h file has been rigged to fit just small hash tables)
Other languages, well British anyway, are either medium (.med)or large
(.xlg) hash tables only.
There is, it seems, a problem with the settings of the FLAGBASE SIZE and
setting of the LARGESTFLAG ( I would guess that medium hash tables require
<=128 to funtion correctly)!
Also there are within the defining of MASKSETS quite a few errors!
