Open PNG with AbiWord

I sent a friend the first page of a patent that was just issued to me and
another guy, and she asked if it was meant to be English or what. I told her to
open it with kview (KDE doesn't have a default association for PNG files) and
it turned out that she had opened it with AbiWord and seen a mess of gibberish.
Since PNG is Abi's native graphics format, couldn't it recognize the format and
display the image?
