Mac OS X AbiWord?

I know Mac OS development of AbiWord has begun, but I'm wondering about the prospects 
of a native OS X version. Would it be based on Carbon code or would it be conceivable 
that you take your UNIX code and create a GUI frontend for it on OS X?
