language property

I have started work on "language" property of text; I have got much 
of the XP and Unix stuff done, but I am not sure how to proceed 
with committing it, because without the dialogues implemented on 
other platforms, it will break the tinderboxes. Any suggestions? 
(there over a donzen of files involved).
