Hmm. I'm not sure I understand your reluctance. Are you concerned that the
binary or RAM use will grow too large? Most of the criticism I hear about
bloat is in terms of software complexity and the resulting stability and
security issues, but here the source already has that added complexity, why
not enable it in the binary?
If I want a text editor, I'll use emacs, but I think people expect AbiWord to
at least aspire to be a fully-featured word processor.

You're right, my apologies. "Serious" is for missing dependencies which
result in build errors or major feature deficiencies (e.g. libgtk1.2-dev
missing from vim-gtk!).
