Unix build broken.

Hi folks,
        The unix build immediately segfaults upon pressing a key. A bit of
tracing with electric fence led to this:

ElectricFence Aborting: free(48e07ffc): address not from malloc().

Program received signal SIGILL, Illegal instruction.
0x403bd8c1 in kill () from /lib/libc.so.6

backtracing led to this..
