OK as promised in the updated todo for 0.90 document: Change buttons of front pane of styles dialog to "apply" and "close" instaed of "OK" and "Cancel". So if you press "apply" your currently selected style gets applied to the document at the current cursor poitn or selections. Pressing "Apply" does not exit you front he styles dialog so if you don't like the style you applied, you either choose a new one or modify the one you've applied until you do like it.
