I don't think this is the same thing at all.
Imagine a seemingly empty paragraph (but with a style applied to it).
I see ^L or ^G either inside empty paragraphs, and frequently before </span>.
I believe that it may be the #pcdata content that is not correctly parsed (either
lacks a \0 or end of string not correctly checked.
