I have been trying to download the source code for AbiWord and have downloaded
several gzipped tar files containing the AbiWord source onto my Windows machine so
that I can try to help out programming Abi for WIN32. The problem is when I try to
unzip the file using my unzip program, zip works, it complains that the Zip file
structure is invalid. Is this a failure of my current unzip program and if so could
someone advise me as to a program I can download to unzip it. If an unzip won't open
the file could someone tell of a program that could open it. Thankyou in advanced.
I would like to also make a suggestion to get more bug reports for OS like
windows. What I think should be done is put on the main menu bar or under help a
selection like "Is there a problem?" which if selected would pop up a dialog box that
explains that the AbiWord developers can only correct problems with AbiWord if they
know about them and encourages them to email any way they find that abiword isn't
working properly. Maybe even set up an email address for just such bug reports; I
would volenteer to help wade through the emails seperating the actual bug reports from
those that are user misunder standings, responding to all the emails apropriately, and
filing bugs in bugzilla for the actual bugs reported. I think this would help
increase the bugs found because many people even if they think to tell someone about a
bug with AbiWord, don't know where to report their problem and if they do may just be
too lazy to go to AbiWord.com, log into bugzilla(and sign up for bug!
zilla if
they have never reported a bug before), and the finally fill out a description of the
bug. While they may not be willing to go through this process I think many more would
be willing to email their problems to an email address, especially if they recieved an
email back about the problem, and if the problem is a bug, a second email saying that
the problem has been fixed and maybe include a patch or what version of abiword to
download to fix the problem.
Sorry if this email is a little wordy and please feel free to email me about and
thing regarding this email.
