I agree with the above. That is, the 1st time I used abiword, when I closed the last open document, I did not expect the whole program to exit (this is probably just because I am used to MDI applications). Personally I like the above idea of opening a blank document if you select close and no other documents are open. I think close should just close the document, not close the document and exit the program. [Although, I would rather no changes be made (after all, I'm used to the current behavior now, it only takes 1 time making that mistake) than doing weird stuff like removing/greying menu options, or adding dialogs or other odd menu choices (close & open / close & new)]. Please, noone take these comments personally if you prefer different approaches, just giving my opinion as a user.
