I just mentioned the idea because I'd seen a story on Slashdot, liked the screenshots, and noticed that there wasn't an AbiWord window there yet. >From what I saw, one possible issue might be AtheOS's level of support for some of the more advanced GUI widgets that we take advantage of in our platform implementations. However, I noticed a tab dialog class, and it looks like there's some way to make toolbars, so that might not be so bad after all. Another issue might be the fact that we've never audited the XP code to make sure that it's thread-safe (which pretty much guarantees that it isn't). However, various BeOS hackers have figured out workarounds, so you should be able to as well. In any event, I'm sure it'd still be *far* less work than writing an entire word processor from scratch. :-) The last time I checked, less than 10% of the source required to build AbiWord was platform-specific.
