Just thought I'd chip in my $.02:  Both Word Perfect and Word (IIRC) at
one time had splash screens that included really elegant looking
fountain pens.  (I don't know much about fountain pens -- could these
have been "Mont Blanc" pens with sort of a marbled looking finish?

Anyway, I thought those were elegant splash screens.
