Ironic, in a way - burning the midnight oil for over two hours trying to
track this down, and turns out the error was in a line that I myself
added in order to *fix* the darwin build...
o 1 loc: use environment variable LANG rather than locale LC_CTYPE when
LC_MESSAGES isn't defined... fix to enable non- en_US menus on darwin
