I remember now - I tried to make Swiss when I made Deutsch but failed.
This time I get errors too, ispell complaining about �, �, �, �, �, �
I modified the aff file, replacing a\" with �, etc. and ispell stopped
complaining - hopefully the resultant dictionary is valid...
