IMO, proper release procedure should be:
1. update version numbers in abi/configure.* and abiword-plugins/autogen.sh
2. tag CVS
3. run autogen.sh
4. create source tar-ball
5. create RPMs from source tar-ball
o remove GNUmakefile.in
