unconfigured install

  Hello list
        I am new to linux and have an abiword install question.  I have a
debian (potato) box and have downloaded the latest abisource .deb file.
It installed ok but will not configure.  It says that,

libc6 >= 2.1.97 required I have libc6 2.1.3-10 --is it okay to use this
libc6??

I don't have libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2 or xlibs >= 4.0.1-1
--I checked the debian packages for these and none where found, how can
I get these files or are there debian equivalents I can use.
