Thanks everyone very much! I had to add 'Load "type1' (lower case t) to
my XF86config-4 and it worked prefectly after that. Actually, it looks
like there are about 4 different font directories that weren't getting
loaded.
Also, this is not related exactly to Abiword, on startup XFree still says
it is unable to load my speed0 fonts, is that another module I need to
have loaded?
