I have been trying to install v.0.7.13 on a Caldera 2.4 system. RPM failed compalining that Abiword needed: gtk+ 1.2.7 glib 1.2.7 I got both, installed glib but when making gtk+ it quit with: checking for glib-config... /usr/local/bin/glib-config checking for GLIB - version >= 1.2.7... *** 'glib-config --version' returned 1.2.7, but GLIB (1.2.6) *** was found! If glib-config was correct, then it is best *** to remove the old version of GLIB. You may also be able to fix the error *** by modifying your LD_LIBRARY_PATH enviroment variable, or by editing *** /etc/ld.so.conf. Make sure you have run ldconfig if that is *** required on your system. *** If glib-config was wrong, set the environment variable GLIB_CONFIG *** to point to the correct copy of glib-config, and remove the file config.cache *** before re-running configure no configure: error: *** GLIB 1.2.7 or better is required. The latest version of GLIB *** is always available from ftp://ftp.gtk.org/. I have checked the archives and did not find any problem exactly like this. As usual, the 'answer' leaves me with more questions than when I started: 1. Why didn't I just install with --nodeps (good question, now I think of it...) 2. How do I remove 'the old version of GLIB"? 3. How would I modify the 'LD_LIBRARY_PATH'? 3. Would it really be enough to edit /etc/ld.so.conf? In which case what would I enter as a change? There is no text there now which suggests itself as likely. 4. ldconfig? ok, if this is required when should I run it? After reconfiguring /etc/ld.so.conf? 5. Could I just go ahead with --nodeps anyway and ignore the whole mess? 6. If I install gtk+ 1.2.7 am I going to be in a similar mess? 7. Should I be using v1.2.9 for both? 8. Would it be easier to remove v.1.2.7 and just go with the nodeps install? How would I de-install v.1.2.7? 9. How would I test for the presence of or versions of libraries? This is one I would really like to have the answer to. too many questions. I'm going to go lie down for awhile ... or maybe a big shot of something strong... ----------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word unsubscribe in the message body.
