Yes, unfortunately, that is what I'm saying.  :-(

XHTML is HTML in XML form, which makes it much easier for us to
handle.  Regular HTML is very had to parse, and would require a huge
amount of effort to import.  

However, there are ways to convert HTML to XHTML.  See the Tidy
utility, at http://web3.w3.org/People/Raggett/tidy/
