The worst are the compilers which come with Red Hat 7 even the upgrade versions . Being so in a bleeding edge gcc 2.96 is just not stable and should not be used if you do not want to be with nighmares while compiling . Just replace it with 2.95.2.1 For example you can get it from ftp://gd.tuwien.ac.at/gnu/gcc/releases/gcc-2.95.2.1/ or wait for 3.0.... Look at http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-2.96.html for extra information I mentioned this point to Red Hat but did not get any answer Best regards Bernard
