I can copy and paste Chinese, Japanese and Korean from Word 97 for Windows into AbiWord BiDi 0.9.2 for Windows but I cannot type Chinese, etc. in AbiWord itself. I use NJStar Communicator or MView Pro to type Chinese, etc. in Word 97.
