Slowdown

Every time i use Abiword (in WNX and Windows), It seems to start slowing down on me.  The text i type takes a certain amount of time to appear on the screen.  I sit there and wait for the text to catch up with my typing.    Now, i'm only typing the average IRC speed of what ever number of words per minutes yet, by far, i am not the fastest typer around.   Is there a reason Abiword does this?  It becomes very unusable, slowing down as a program alltogether.  If this could be fixed it woudl be great!   It has improved from 7.14 QNX to 9.2 Windows yet is there something behind this?
