Yeah, that will work, but usually you WANT the uninstall scripts to run. So the safest (by far not the easiest) way would be to read the uninstall script (inside the rpm file, now probably somewhere on your system -- I'm not sure where to find it, so ask someone else) and debug it, and if that's not possible, uninstall without scripts and manually do anything required.
