People ultimately do things because those things interest them. Some people do things in order to get money, sex, food, recognition. Even selfless acts are somewhat selfish. Not everyone is a "starving artist" who does everything for the most "pure and noble" of intentions, if such things really do exist. I work on AbiWord because *I* want to, not because other people want me to. This means that: 1) I don't have to implement anything I don't want to 2) I don't have to fix any bug that I don't want to 3) I don't have to answer any question that I don't want to Our works inevitably get released to the world. However, *very* often we do things for ourselves and not for the betterment of all humanity. I'm *very* happy that people find AbiWord interesting and useful. It brings me a lot of joy that something I've worked on has helped others. But I do not work on AbiWord to help others. I work on AbiWord because I want to help me. It interests me. I release Abi to the world in the hope that other people find it interesting and useful. But I would not call nuclear reactions a "meaningless trivial task." I didn't start a tempest, I just said "no" to your feature request. It is my right as developer and maintainer to do so. I don't have to do as you wish. If you don't like my "no" answer, convince someone else to do this work for you or do it yourself. You have failed to convince me. You replied to my "no" email personally (not on the list) and tried to convince me that you were right.
