People forget that nothing's perfect, especially MS code. I teach on the university level, tech writing. I have tried to get my students to use RTF. Do they? Not many. So compatibility with DOC is very useful for me. I often open doc files attached to email on my linux box at home. I have few to no problems.
I did have an odd situation last fall. A student sent an RTF file created with XP; the AbiWord I was using then wouldn't open it. He resent it as DOC and it opened fine. This problem hasn't recurred, but I don't think many are using XP yet. Has anyone else encountered this?
