What desktop manager? What window manager? No program can install itself conveniently under every setup under the sun. Add it yourself -- hopefully, the command AbiWord will launch it just fine -- works for me. So go to run and type AbiWord, or go to a konsole/gnome-terminal window and type AbiWord, just to make sure it's there.
