there is a version of Abiword included in the Mandrake distribution, so i
assume you want to get a new version.

Uninstalling the old version is strongly recommended before installing the
new version

Ximian redcarpet is recommended for RedHat i would be surprised if they
did not also have Mandrake RPMs (i like Ximian).

[Do me a favour if you are active in the mandrake community, tell them you
want the to use the XST (formerly known as Ximian Setup Tools) they would
make linux a whole lot easier and users dont have to learn a whole new set
of tools if they switch distributions unfortunately vested interests
at various distributions mean they are unlikely to be adopted (Same goes
for RedHat)  /endrant]

or just follow the advice of this email posted to the list earlier
