For expat, make sure you have these packages: ii expat 1.95.2-6 XML parsing C library - example application ii libexpat1 1.95.2-6 XML parsing C library - runtime library ii libexpat1-dev 1.95.2-6 XML parsing C library - development kit For xft support I couldn't myself build it on Debian PPC.... Once I built and install fontconfig, configure still don't detect it because xft-config is not installed.... Otherwise, building without Xft support goes seemlessly.
