Unable to get "AbiWord" run on "RedHat 8.0" - please help ...

Hi everybody,
have no way to find out what trouble it is;
have tried to download the newest version of "AbiWord" (gtk and gnome), also that version, which came with "RedHat 8.0".
For the 'gtk' version i have downloaded from 'abisource' and the one which i had found on the "RedHat" cd (installed for german) i can't write a line so i can follow it, i mean the end of the line goes over, out over the background / the 'white paper' to the right. Also on the top of the "AbiWord" window, where i can change the different subjects, 'File' Edit' and so there appears one rider with the letters: "Should not appear".
So if someone has a 'functionally' version of "AbiWord" on "RedHat 8.0" i would like to know, which version it is:-)
