Here is what is known, after further testing and irc discussions: - the problem doesn't occur with nm or ifup/ifdown ; - it does occur with wicd. Even with wicd, more is known : - connecting from one network to another works ok ; - but unconnecting, then connecting, gives an issue, because wicd seems to clear/reset things even from the unconnected state, before trying to connect. And the box is killed by this clear/reset for nothing. So wicd probably triggers a bug somewhere in the wifi driver's clearing/resetting code, when things are already clean. Is there something more I could test?
