Thanks very much for your response. In fact I did not see your reply when I reposted my question. I'll try your approach eventhough my work at the moment has come to a standstill.

Thanks

Hi Liveson,
I would either come off the money and buy additional copies (cheap) @ http://www.rarlab.com/
or
WINZIP it and send it out.

You may also want to check for permissions associated with the file.

Subject: [AccessDevelopers] Fw: [DevAccess] OPENING SELF EXTRACTING FILES

Sorry that I'm reposting the question below. I thought I should quote the entire error message. I'm desperate for a solution, right now I'm just waiting in case someone has a suggestion which may lead to a solution. The error message is "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

Thanks

Subject: [DevAccess] OPENING SELF EXTRACTING FILES

Hi Friends

Can you please help me? I frequently receive zipped databases from our satellite branches spread across the country. The databases are zipped using WinRar and are self-extracting. Of late when I just open the "exe" file I receive an error that Windows cannot access the file, etc, etc. Well, since I have WinRar installed on my pc I simply right-click on the file and select Extract. Now the problem is I've sent a file to someone on whose pc there is no WinRar and she is experiencing the same problem: Windows cannot access the file... Is there any solution? I'm completely stuck. I've tried WinZip without any success. This may not be the appropriate group but please help me nevertheless if you can. The operating system is Windows XP.

Thanks in advance
